Ilkay Gundogan has shared his reasons for leaving Barcelona in an open letter addressed to the club’s supporters. The 33-year-old midfielder, who has recently rejoined Manchester City after a brief stint with Barcelona, attributed his departure to the club’s financial difficulties.
In his letter, Gundogan expressed his regret over the circumstances that led to his exit, noting that the financial challenges at Barcelona left him with no other option but to leave.
Despite his short tenure, Gundogan thanked the fans for their support and reflected on his experiences with the team.
“Leaving under such circumstances is challenging, but if my departure can alleviate some of the club’s financial burdens, it brings me some comfort,” Gundogan wrote.
He continued, “My time at Barça, though brief, was filled with remarkable experiences and a mix of highs and lows. Playing for Barcelona was a dream of mine, and I am grateful for the memories and experiences that I will cherish for a lifetime.”
Gundogan concluded with well-wishes for the future: “I wish the best for the season and the future. The fans deserve to see this great club return to its position among the world’s elite.”
