An ad hoc committee from the House of Representatives recently conducted an inspection of the Lagos-Sagamu expressway and the second bridge over the River Niger. Their primary objective was to determine whether Julius Berger, the construction company involved, adhered to the relevant laws governing the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF).
Before embarking on the physical inspection of the projects, Hon. Ademorin Kuye, the Chairman of the Committee, emphasized their mission to scrutinize key infrastructure projects funded by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) through the PIDF across the country.
“Nigerians demand better roads, and we now have a remarkable road connecting the country here. However, we understand that when you provide infrastructure, questions about costs arise. That’s why we are conducting this oversight duty to ensure that all parties comply with the laws governing the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund,” stated Hon. Kuye during the inspection of the Second Niger Bridge.
He further explained, “Our duty is to ensure that NSIA’s funding has been utilized judiciously. We are impressed with the progress so far. Soon, this road will be completed, and it will serve its purpose effectively.”
Hon. Kuye commended Julius Berger for their work, saying, “What you have accomplished is commendable, very commendable. However, we need to clarify the process that led to this impressive project, including the challenges faced along the way.”
“We are impressed with what we observed both at the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway and the Second River Niger Bridge,” he added.
During their earlier inspection of the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway, the committee acknowledged the significant expertise displayed by Julius Berger in constructing this vital highway. The chairman highlighted the road’s importance in the country’s overall economic development and praised Julius Berger for their exemplary engineering work, emphasizing the project’s top quality and durability.
Accompanied by other members of the House Ad Hoc Committee, Hon. Ademorin Kuye expressed satisfaction with Julius Berger’s performance thus far following their investigative inspection of the project. He also encouraged communities along the project corridor to maintain peaceful relations with Julius Berger, assuring them that the project would be completed within the year.
The House Ad Hoc Committee team included Hon. Ademorin Kuye, Timiehin Adelegbe, Hon. Isa Muhammed Anka, Hon. Umar Yabo, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, and Hon. Nasiru Isika.
