In a bid to resolve the impasse between Otun Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, and other kingmakers regarding the nomination of the new Olubadan, influential Ibadan elders have stepped in to mediate between the two conflicting parties.
The disagreement between Otun Olubadan, a former Governor of Oyo State, and nine other members of the Olubadan in Council has led to a stalemate in the nomination process for the next Olubadan.
This rift has prevented the Olubadan in Council from reaching a consensus on the nomination, especially as Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the potential Olubadan designate, is currently indisposed, and the kingmakers insist on meeting him in person before finalizing the nomination.
A recent meeting convened by High Chief Ladoja was boycotted by other members of the council, leaving Senator Ladoja as the sole participant. However, it was agreed upon that another meeting of the Olubadan in Council would be convened on or before Friday to address the ongoing deadlock.
A reliable source, speaking on condition of anonymity, emphasized that Ibadan has its unique ways of resolving internal disputes and assured that the matter would be resolved amicably, considering it as a family issue.
During discussions, elders appealed to both sides to consider the potential repercussions of their actions on the traditionally peaceful Ibadan chieftaincy system, highlighting the importance of maintaining order and unity within the council.
It is hoped that a new meeting will be convened soon by Otun Olubadan with the full participation of all council members. The elders also urged High Chief Ladoja to prioritize peace and understanding, despite any grievances stemming from the earlier boycott of the meeting he initiated.
