Following demands by Rivers youths for the redeployment of CP Nwonyi Emeka, Disu has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Rivers State, just three days after the protest. Disu, the former Principal Staff Officer of the IGP and head of the Intelligence Response Team, along with seven others, has been reassigned to different commands, as reported by NTA.
The appointment comes amidst a political feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Following threats to Governor Fubara’s safety, suspected arsonists bombed the Assembly, leading to a subsequent impeachment proceeding against the Governor. Meanwhile, reports suggested that the ousted Police Commissioner, Nwonyi Emeka, was a loyalist of Wike.
