Afrobeats singer, Jaywon, has publicly rebuked fellow artist, Odumodublvck, for disrespecting his elders in the Nigerian music scene. This clash arose after Odumodublvck posted a picture on X (formerly known as Twitter) that seemed to mock Jaywon, comparing images of the Mavin Records artist Ayra Starr.
In one of the images, Ayra Starr was seen closely posing with American rapper Future, showcasing what appeared to be a warm and friendly interaction. However, the second image showed a stark contrast, where Ayra Starr was pictured with Jaywon, holding his hand in a way that suggested she was keeping him at a distance, seemingly preventing him from holding her waist.
Odumodublvck posted the pictures side by side with the caption, “This life ehn,” alluding to the different treatments Jaywon and Future received from Ayra Starr, indirectly mocking the veteran artist.
Jaywon, clearly displeased with the post, responded by calling out Odumodublvck for his actions. He accused the rising rapper of disrespecting those who have been in the industry far longer than him. In his reply, Jaywon wrote: “Lol, you’re already dragging your senior, who’s going to drag you? You haven’t even started life, and you’re already stepping on toes.”
Jaywon’s comment highlights a common issue in the music industry where younger artists sometimes fail to acknowledge the contributions and legacy of those who came before them.
### Odumodublvck Expresses Admiration for Rema
In a separate development, Odumodublvck, despite the criticism, showed his respect for another younger colleague, Rema, who is currently one of the biggest names in Afrobeats. In a post on his X handle, the rapper revealed that although he is six years older than Rema, he listens closely to the advice Rema gives, acknowledging the young star’s wisdom.
Odumodublvck admitted that Rema provides him with advice that even his parents never gave him, demonstrating the profound respect he has for the younger singer. “I senior Rema with six years but when him dey talk I dey pay full attention. E get many thing wey him tell me wey I never hear anybody tell me. Not even my father and mother,” he wrote.
He went on to emphasize that being an “OG” or a legend in the industry is not about age but about the impact and insight an artist brings. He added, “And trust me, I don hear many advice. I repeat OG no be by age.”
This statement from Odumodublvck shows a different side of the rapper, where he acknowledges the importance of learning from peers, regardless of age, and underscores that experience in the music industry is measured by wisdom, not years.
### A Growing Rift in Afrobeats?
The interaction between Jaywon and Odumodublvck highlights a potential rift within the Afrobeats community, where generational differences and perceived slights can lead to tensions. While Odumodublvck has shown respect for certain younger artists like Rema, his mocking tone towards Jaywon suggests a disregard for the older generation that helped shape the Afrobeats genre.
With Jaywon’s response, it remains to be seen whether this tension will escalate or whether both artists will resolve their differences privately. Nonetheless, the incident has sparked discussions among fans about respect and hierarchy in the fast-growing Afrobeats industry.
