Jordan Torunarigha, the new addition to the Super Eagles, is determined to make a strong impact and silence his critics as he embarks on his international career with Nigeria.
Previously, Torunarigha declined the opportunity to represent Nigeria before the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, he had a change of heart when it became evident that he wouldn’t secure a spot on Germany’s national team.
Torunarigha is now focused on enhancing the performance of the Super Eagles and bringing joy to Nigerian football fans. His potential professional debut may come against Sao Tome and Principe in a qualifier for the 2024 African Cup of Nations.
The defender, born in Germany and currently playing for Belgian club Gent, is determined to demonstrate his patriotism for Nigeria on the field, aiming to dispel criticism he faced for initially choosing Germany over Nigeria.
The 26-year-old talented center-back expressed his excitement about representing his nation on the pitch. He also acknowledged the valuable experience gained from training alongside prominent Nigerian players, such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and AC Milan’s new signing, Samuel Chukwueze.
Torunarigha further appreciated the guidance provided by his new national teammates, such as Jamilu Collins and William Troost-Ekong, which has helped him adapt to the Super Eagles’ system.
He said, “This is my first call-up, and I hope I will be given time to show the fans who have been criticizing me for denying Nigeria what I am made of. I am a young guy and I want to show Nigerians what I can offer.”
