The National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Kano State has invalidated the electoral victory of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate, Yusuf Umar Datti, for the Kura/Madobi/Garun Malam federal constituency.
Justice Ngozi Azinge, presiding over the case, cited Datti’s failure to resign from Bayero University, Kano, within 30 days before the election as the reason for this decision. Justice Azinge emphasized the importance of adhering to electoral rules and regulations in upholding the integrity of the democratic process.
As a result, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was instructed to revoke the certificate of return previously issued to Datti, declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Kwankwaso, as the rightful winner of the election.
Kwankwaso, who garnered the second-highest number of votes in the February 25 election, expressed his appreciation for the judiciary’s commitment to the rule of law and ensuring the people’s will is upheld. He affirmed his dedication to serving the constituents of the Kura/Madobi/Garun Malam constituency.
