This hospital, known for its significant role in healthcare provision in the state, has fallen into a state of disrepair.
Governor Yusuf conveyed his disappointment while addressing journalists during an unscheduled visit to the hospital’s premises, accompanied by top government officials. He stressed that as a teaching hospital responsible for training medical professionals and offering tertiary medical care, MAWTH urgently requires a comprehensive overhaul.
The governor emphasized the need for the hospital to expand its services, particularly in maternity care and pediatrics, given its vital role in serving the healthcare needs of a large number of patients on a daily basis.
He stated, “It is disheartening to witness the condition of a hospital that caters to the medical needs of thousands of patients daily, in a state of disrepair that is unsuitable for human habitation. This situation must be addressed and rectified.”
Governor Yusuf issued a directive to the hospital’s management, urging them to promptly submit a request for the rehabilitation and expansion of the facility. He stressed the importance of taking immediate action to restore the hospital’s former status as a prominent healthcare institution.
Additionally, he called on all healthcare professionals, irrespective of their roles, to be punctual and fulfill their duties in accordance with established guidelines. He emphasized that this commitment is crucial for the welfare of the people of Kano State and those who seek healthcare services at the hospital.
The governor reassured the public that the state government is fully committed to implementing policies that directly impact the lives of the state’s residents, particularly those in need, and will take the necessary steps to address the challenges faced by MAWTH.
