Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Lagos State, has confidently declared that the party will secure victory in the 2027 elections and take control of the state. Rhodes-Vivour, who lost to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the last election, made the declaration during a press interaction in Umuahia, Abia State, where he participated in an extensive Labour Party Stakeholders’ meeting.
Rhodes-Vivour highlighted the Labour Party’s strengthened position and strategic planning since its notable performance in the 2023 elections, especially its success in the presidential poll in Lagos. He expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the Umuahia meeting, which he believes have significantly enhanced the party’s prospects for 2027.
“We are now well-organized and ready to win and take power in 2027,” Rhodes-Vivour stated. He emphasized that the Labour Party’s efforts have been continuous and unwavering since the 2023 elections, with the party growing stronger each day.
Criticizing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Rhodes-Vivour attributed the party’s potential for victory to the APC’s poor performance and ongoing economic challenges in the country. “The APC has been failing Nigerians for a very long time. It didn’t start today, although things are harder now,” he said.
Rhodes-Vivour also commended Labour Party Leader and 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, as well as Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, for their efforts in rescuing and repositioning the party. He praised the decision to address the party’s leadership crisis, which had been exacerbated by disputes within the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Comrade Julius Abure.
The recent Stakeholders’ meeting resulted in the appointment of a 29-member Caretaker Committee, chaired by former Finance Minister Senator Nenadi Usman. This committee is tasked with revitalizing the party and organizing a new convention within 90 days to ensure a unified and strategic approach heading into the 2027 elections.
