In a setback for the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury sustained while playing for his English club, Leicester City. Despite making the final 25-man roster, medical checks revealed that Ndidi won’t recover in time to participate in the Super Eagles’ quest for their fourth AFCON title.
To fill the void left by Ndidi’s absence, Alhassan Yusuf, a midfielder with Royal Antwerp, has received a late call-up to join the Super Eagles squad. Yusuf is set to join the team’s training camp in Dubai as they prepare for the upcoming tournament. The late addition of Yusuf adds depth to the midfield and brings a new dynamic to the Super Eagles’ lineup as they aim for success in AFCON 2023.
