**Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has sustained a thigh injury ahead of this weekend’s crucial La Liga derby against Atletico Madrid.** The club announced on Wednesday that the French superstar was diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg following tests conducted by their medical staff.
Mbappé was substituted during the 3-2 victory over Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday, showing signs of discomfort. Reports from Spanish media suggest he may be sidelined for approximately three weeks.
“He’s fine, a little overloaded,” Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti commented after the match, noting that Mbappé requested to come off to prevent further issues.
The 25-year-old forward made a significant impact in the game, scoring one of the goals for Madrid and bringing his total to five goals in seven league appearances this season. In addition to missing the derby, Mbappé is likely to sit out the upcoming Champions League match against Lille and may miss France’s Nations League games against Israel and Belgium in October.
Since joining Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Mbappé has found his rhythm, scoring seven goals in nine matches across all competitions, including a goal in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta and during his Champions League debut.
Madrid, currently one point behind league leaders Barcelona, will face Atletico at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday. Los Blancos remain unbeaten in La Liga for 39 games, with their last loss occurring against Atletico a year ago.
