In a recent court ruling, a man identified as Abayomi has been sentenced to death by hanging in Ondo. The judgment, delivered by Justice O.S Kuteyi, followed Abayomi’s conviction for the murder of Oluwole in 2021 at the Ijoka area of Akure.
The court found Abayomi guilty of attacking the 63-year-old bricklayer during an argument over well water poisoning. Despite the convict’s claim of insanity during the crime, the judge maintained that Abayomi intentionally assaulted the deceased with a machete, leading to his death. The prosecution successfully established the case of murder against Abayomi, and the court sentenced him to death by hanging.
The incident was initially reported to the police, leading to Abayomi’s arrest and subsequent trial. Throughout the proceedings, the defense argued Abayomi’s alleged insanity, but the court ultimately held him accountable for the deliberate attack on Oluwole, stating that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt.
