In a recent podcast interview with Taymesan, Mayorkun opened up about his childhood struggles and discussed his relationship with his famous mother, Toyin Adewale. The singer shared that he didn’t appreciate the fact that his mom was a popular actress, as it brought unwanted attention and favoritism that he wished to avoid.
Mayorkun explained that the recognition as Toyin Adewale’s son came with its challenges, including fake attention and being treated differently. He emphasized that during his university years, he was intentional about keeping his mother’s identity under wraps, going so far as to keep it a secret for four years.
The singer recalled an incident when his mother brought him food at school, and he hurriedly took it from her to prevent others from noticing. Mayorkun expressed his dislike for being treated differently solely because of his mother’s fame.
Addressing his relationship with Davido, Mayorkun clarified that the perception of a rift between them is unfounded. Despite leaving Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) in 2021, the singer stated that he has one of the best relationships with Davido. He explained that the misconception arises because he doesn’t flaunt their connection on social media.
Mayorkun’s revelations offer a glimpse into the challenges he faced growing up in the shadow of his famous mother and the nuanced dynamics of his relationship with fellow artist Davido.
