Nafisat Muhideen, the mother of the tragic baby who was fatally mauled by two dogs at Zone E, Unity Estate, Halleluyah Area of Ido-Osun, Osun State, has revealed that the vicious animals attacked her from behind as she was on her way to buy medicine for her baby, who was suffering from catarrh.
The infant, named Mariam, lost her life when two dogs, unleashed from a house near the road, attacked Nafisat while she was carrying Mariam on her back.
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that the dogs had been observed by others in the area barking near a gate before the incident occurred.
Recounting the tragic incident, Nafisat, whose baby was five months old that day, explained that she was en route to a pharmacy to purchase medicine for both herself and her daughter, who was struggling with catarrh. She detailed how the dogs unexpectedly pounced on her from behind, snatching the baby from her back and subjecting her to the fatal attack.
Desperate for help, Nafisat attempted to fend off the dogs with stones, but they persisted in attacking the baby. Eventually, other residents arrived and managed to retrieve the remains of the baby from beneath the dogs.
Subsequently, the Osun State Police Command has taken action by apprehending the owner of the dogs responsible for the tragedy. Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the command, assured that a thorough investigation is ongoing, emphasizing that justice will be pursued in the matter.
