Victor Osimhen, the star striker for Napoli and reigning African Player of the Year, is determined to secure victory for the Super Eagles at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. Osimhen sees this as an opportunity to compensate Nigerian fans for the team’s recent letdown during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Expressing his disappointment over the Super Eagles’ inability to overcome Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers, Osimhen acknowledged the tremendous support from Nigerian fans at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. He emphasized the collective desire to provide a better performance and bring pride to the nation.
Looking ahead to the 2023 AFCON, scheduled to kick off on January 13, Osimhen highlighted the team’s determination to clinch the title for the fourth time in Nigeria’s history. Confident in the capabilities of the squad, Osimhen believes that winning the continental tournament is the path to redemption following the World Cup setback.
With their first match against Equatorial Guinea on January 14, the Super Eagles will face the host nation, Ivory Coast, on January 18, and conclude their Group A fixtures against Guinea-Bissau on January 22. Osimhen and his teammates are eager to make amends and bring joy to Nigerian fans through a successful AFCON campaign.”
