The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the addition of 12 more state-run tertiary institutions to its student loan application portal, increasing the total number of onboarded institutions to 48.
This development follows a warning from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), which demanded that schools yet to submit their students’ data to NELFUND comply within 12 hours or face consequences. NANS President, Lucky Emonefe, released a list of non-compliant institutions and stressed the urgency of the situation.
In a statement, NELFUND emphasized the importance of this expansion, noting that it followed the successful submission and verification of data by the newly onboarded institutions.
“The Management of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is delighted to announce the onboarding of an additional twelve (12) state government-owned tertiary institutions to the student loan application portal. This expansion comes following the successful submission and verification of data completeness and accuracy required from the institutions,” the statement read.
Nasir Ayitogo, NELFUND’s Head of Media and Public Relations, highlighted the agency’s commitment to ensuring more students benefit from the loan scheme. He also mentioned that 121 institutions still need to submit their data.
During a recent visit to the Governor of Osun State, NELFUND Managing Director, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, expressed gratitude to the compliant institutions and commended Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke for his leadership.
“The Fund urges all institutions that are yet to submit their students’ data to the Student Verification Portal (SVS) to kindly do so to enable their students to benefit from the scheme. It also urges states whose data has been captured and successfully uploaded to urgently sensitize their students to apply, thereby bringing succour to students who are struggling financially whilst also bringing guaranteed revenue to the institutions,” Ayitogo added.
Students from the newly onboarded state government-owned tertiary institutions can now visit [www.nelf.gov.ng](http://www.nelf.gov.ng) to apply for the loan.
