The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced an ambitious plan to strengthen its fleet with the acquisition of 50 new aircraft, set to be delivered between December 2024 and 2026. This significant announcement was made by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, during the second biannual meeting with Branch chiefs and Air Officers in Abuja.
Air Marshal Abubakar proudly reported that the NAF has successfully inducted 12 new aircraft into its inventory over the past year, marking a remarkable achievement not seen in recent history. He emphasized the importance of this progress as part of the NAF’s ongoing modernization efforts aimed at enhancing operational readiness and capability.
During his address, Abubakar noted, “A few months ago, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force, which ushered us into a golden era of transformation and evolution.” He highlighted that these are indeed exciting times for the Air Force, calling for innovative thinking, resilience, and dedication from all personnel to meet the challenges ahead.
The CAS urged officers to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and loyalty as they contribute to the NAF’s mission. “I am confident that, under your leadership, the men and women under your commands will rise to the occasion and excel in all tasks set before them,” he stated, reinforcing his belief in the capabilities of the Air Force’s personnel.
The meeting also addressed several critical issues, leading to important resolutions and recommendations discussed during the last gathering with Branch chiefs and Air Officers Commanding (AOCs) in June. Abubakar’s remarks and the strategic vision laid out during this meeting underscore the NAF’s commitment to enhancing its fleet and operational capacity in response to contemporary military needs.
