The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms in various parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday, according to its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja.
### Monday’s Forecast
On Monday, morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno states. As the day progresses, thunderstorms will spread to other northern regions including Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Sokoto.
In the central region, thunderstorms are anticipated in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara in the morning. By the afternoon, isolated thunderstorms are expected in Kwara, the FCT, Niger, Benue, and Kogi.
In the southwest, morning rains will occur in Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun states, as well as coastal regions including Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa. Later in the day, thunderstorms are forecast for Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos.
### Tuesday’s Forecast
On Tuesday, morning thunderstorms will affect Taraba, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, and Zamfara. In the afternoon, storms are expected in Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe, and Adamawa.
The central states, including the FCT, Niger, Benue, and Nasarawa, will also see thunderstorms in the morning, with more expected in the afternoon alongside Plateau and Kwara states.
In southern Nigeria, morning rains are forecast in Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers. Thunderstorms are anticipated later in the day in Oyo, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers.
### Wednesday’s Forecast
By Wednesday, morning thunderstorms will hit Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi. Isolated storms are expected later in the day in Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Kaduna, Kano, and Katsina.
Thunderstorms will affect parts of Niger and Kwara, with cloudy conditions expected in other central states. By the afternoon, the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue will experience storms.
In the southern region, morning rains are forecast for Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, while other areas will remain cloudy. By the evening, thunderstorms will extend to Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, and Delta.
### Safety Advisories
NiMet has urged residents, especially in flood-prone areas, to take precautions against potential urban flooding due to heavy rainfall in major cities. The agency also warned of strong winds that may accompany thunderstorms, advising the public to stay alert and adhere to safety measures.
Airline operators are encouraged to regularly update themselves on weather reports to ensure safe flights.
