The Niger State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted two trailers suspected of transporting vandalized railway sleepers in Mokwa Local Government Area. The interception was made by the command’s anti-vandal squad, who acted on intelligence along the Mokwa road.
Niger State NSCDC Commandant Joachim Okafor disclosed this during a press briefing on Friday. He noted that upon sighting the officers, the drivers of the trailers abandoned the trucks and fled. The command believes the drivers are associates involved in the economic sabotage.
An investigation is currently underway to identify the owner of the trailers and the vandalized railway sleepers. Commandant Okafor urged those involved in economic sabotage to cease using Niger State as a transit point. He emphasized that the command will continue to respond to public information to arrest and prosecute criminals.
