The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) is in mourning following the death of its President, Emeka Ogbu, on Monday, November 27, after a brief illness. Mohammed Bawa, the Acting President of NUGA, confirmed Ogbu’s demise to journalists in Jos on Wednesday.
Emeka Ogbu, who served as the Director of Sports at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), was elected as the NUGA president in March 2022. His sudden passing has left the university sports community in grief.
In a related development, the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Ayo Ni O, Surulere District in Lagos, also announced the death of its Chairman and General Leader, Sunday Funso Korede. The church, in a statement on Tuesday, disclosed that Korede passed away at the age of 73 on Sunday, November 26. The cause of death was not revealed.
The statement from the church praised Korede for his impactful record and spiritual growth within the organization. It read, “With gratitude to God for a life well spent; a life of devoted service and commitment and total submission to His will, the Elders and entire membership of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Surulere District and the illustrious Korode family of Omu-Aran announce the transition to glory of our Chairman/General Leader, son…Senior Special Apostle Sunday Funso Korede on Sunday, November 26, 2023; aged 73.”
