According to oil marketers, the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in automobiles is projected to be over 400% cheaper than petrol (Premium Motor Spirit). Since the removal of petrol subsidy, the pump price of petrol has surged, resulting in increased costs of goods and services in Nigeria. In an effort to address the high fuel expenses, marketers advocate for the switch to CNG, which could potentially deliver the same energy output as one liter of petrol at a cost of less than N110 per liter. Discussions between oil dealers and the government are ongoing, with hopes of including CNG in the energy mix to achieve a more affordable trajectory. A steering committee has been established by the Federal Government to explore demands from organized labor, including the conversion of vehicles to run on CNG.
