Nigerian right-back, Ola Aina, is edging closer to a return to the Premier League this summer after being without a club.
The 26-year-old, who began his football journey at Chelsea’s academy, was last contracted to the Italian Serie A club, Torino.
Aina initially joined Torino on loan from Chelsea on August 14, 2018, and later secured a permanent move on July 1, 2019, for a transfer fee of €9.80 million. However, similar to his time at Chelsea, he struggled to establish himself at the Italian side and was subsequently loaned out to Fulham from 2020 to 2021.
Following the expiration of his contract with Torino on July 1, 2023, the club opted to release him as he was deemed surplus to requirements, leaving him without a club since then.
The good news for Ola Aina, who has earned 30 caps for the Nigerian national team since making his international debut on October 7, 2017, is that he is on the verge of joining another Premier League club, this time on a permanent deal.
Nottingham Forest is the destination for the talented defender, according to Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted the news on Friday, July 21. Aina and Nottingham Forest are reportedly close to finalizing a permanent contract that will keep him at the club until June 2026.
As per the transfer expert’s information, Aina’s potential contract with the Premier League club will be for two years, with an option for a year’s extension. This move marks an exciting opportunity for Ola Aina to reignite his career in the English top-flight and contribute to Nottingham Forest’s ambitions in the upcoming seasons.
