The Ondo State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the recent appointment of one of its members to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board.
Last week, the state’s APC chapter had voiced its opposition to the nomination of Victor Akinjo, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former PDP candidate for the House of Representatives election in the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in February.
Akinjo has since been replaced by Otito Atikase, a former member of the state House of Assembly.
The APC State Chairman, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, conveyed his satisfaction regarding Akinjo’s replacement, describing President Tinubu as a responsive leader attuned to the desires and core interests of the people. Adetimehin stated, “The decision to withdraw the previous nominee due to his actions during the general elections and appoint a loyal and dynamic APC stalwart, Otito Atikase, is heartening and commendable.”
The party urged Atikase to always prioritize the interests of Ondo State while serving on the NDDC board, emphasizing, “You are expected to further contribute to the development of the APC, particularly in Ondo State.” Adetimehin extended well-wishes for a productive tenure to the Ondo State representative and the entire NDDC governing board, expressing the state APC’s satisfaction with the development.
Previously, the Ondo State APC had rejected Akinjo’s nomination, criticizing the Presidency for selecting a member of the opposition party who allegedly worked against Tinubu during the last presidential election in the state. However, the Presidency subsequently rescinded the decision and substituted Akinjo with Atikase.
Reportedly, Tinubu approved the immediate replacement of the representatives from Ondo and Cross River states on the NDDC board, although no official explanation was provided for Atikase’s appointment.
