During a Thursday plenary session presided over by Speaker Olamide Oladiji, the Ondo State House of Assembly confirmed Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami as the Deputy Governor of the state. The nomination letter from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, submitted to the House on Wednesday, was read by the Clerk of the House, Benjamin Jaiyeola.
The report of the screening committee, presented by Deputy Speaker Abayomi Akinruntan, highlighted Adelami’s reputable character, extensive exposure, and physical and mental fitness for the position. In response, Adelami expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve the state, emphasizing that his appointment was a call of duty. He pledged to contribute to the development of Ondo State and the country, promising to foster a harmonious relationship between the state executive and the legislature.
The Speaker of the House assured continuous support from the legislature to the executive and declared that with Adelami’s confirmation, the stage was set for the rapid development of Ondo State. Aiyedatiwa, who took the oath of office as the Ondo State Governor on December 27, 2023, following the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, selected Adelami, a kinsman of the late governor from Owo, as his deputy.
