Quadri Aruna, representing Nigeria, will kick off his pursuit of a medal in the table tennis competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. He will compete against Eduard Ionescu of Romania in the first round of the men’s singles event. This match is scheduled for Saturday and presents Aruna with a chance to avenge his previous 2-3 loss to Ionescu in the European Champions League semi-finals.
Olajide Omotayo, Aruna’s teammate, will face Noshad Alamiyan from Iran in another first-round match on the same day.
In the women’s singles, Offiong Edem will compete against Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi, while Fatimo Bello, making her Olympic debut, will play against Jia Nana Yuan, a Chinese-born French player.
The table tennis events at the South Paris Arena will run from Saturday to August 10, encompassing five medal events: men’s and women’s singles, mixed doubles, and men’s and women’s team competitions. The women’s singles medal matches are set for August 3, while the men’s singles will conclude on August 4. The mixed doubles medal matches will take place on Tuesday, and the team events will conclude with the men’s team on August 9 and the women’s team on August 10.
