The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to investigate allegations of bribery against the judiciary. The call comes in response to a viral video in which an All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Yusuf Gagdi, made statements suggesting the involvement of certain judicial officers in biased judgments.
The PDP alleges that the APC has set up a special team, including two former governors serving as cabinet ministers and a prominent APC leader from the North East Zone, with the mandate to induce judicial officers to deliver judgments against the PDP. The party claims that Gagdi’s comments confirm public speculations about attempts to influence the judiciary.
The PDP specifically points to allegations that a former APC governor influenced members of the Plateau State Election Appeal Court panel with $5 million to deliver a biased judgment against Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s victory.
Expressing concern about the erosion of public confidence in the judiciary, the PDP calls for a high-powered panel to probe the claims made by the APC and investigate the bribery allegations against the Plateau State Election Appeal Court Panel. The party warns that the situation could escalate into a full-blown crisis if not addressed promptly.
