Nigerian artist Peruzzi has candidly shared the reasons behind his decision to drop out of medical school during his final year. Speaking on the Zero Conditions Podcast, Peruzzi revealed that he felt mentally drained while studying Medicine and Surgery in Ukraine. Despite reaching his final year and completing his first MD, he expressed a deep sense of exhaustion and a desire to pursue his passion for music.
“I got tired for real, for real. I never felt like that in my life. I was done, like everything about me, in my head I was done with medicine,” explained Peruzzi. He emphasized that the decision was not about the time left in his course but rather his unwillingness to continue. Peruzzi had been studying at the Odessa National University in Ukraine until his fifth year.
Upon returning to Nigeria, he confided in his mother about his feelings and reasons for leaving medical school. His mother set a condition for his return, asking him to provide his school results from the first year to demonstrate his commitment to education. While he did not disclose the reason for his return to his father initially, members of his father’s church speculated that he had dropped out due to his presence during a non-holiday period.
Despite the challenges, Peruzzi expressed no regrets about his decision to drop out of medical school, emphasizing the importance of following one’s passion.
