The Anambra State Police Command successfully thwarted an attempted abduction of a foreign national on Sunday in Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government Area. According to a statement by the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the foreigner was rescued following a gunfight between the police and suspected armed secessionists.
The police engaged the kidnappers in a prolonged shootout, resulting in the safe recovery of the victim. Unfortunately, two police officers sustained bullet wounds during the confrontation and are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital. The police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
In a separate incident, police operatives responded to a cult-related clash in Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of four young men. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the victims, identified as Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta, Nnatuanya Junior (a.k.a. Starboy), Aniemena (a.k.a. Osama), and Ahmed Auwal, lying lifeless with gunshot wounds. The victims were believed to be members of a rival cult group involved in ongoing turf battles in the area. The police have intensified joint patrols with the Special Anti-Cultism Squad to restore calm.
Additionally, the police are investigating the murder of a 17-year-old girl, Chinasa Adigwe, whose mutilated body was found in Omasi village. It is suspected that the teenager was killed for ritual purposes, as her private parts had been removed. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has vowed to bring those responsible to justice and has extended condolences to the victim’s family and community.
Investigations into all three incidents are ongoing, with further updates expected in due course.
