The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that police officers arrested for escorting VIPs during the off-cycle governorship elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo States will face disciplinary measures. The IGP confirmed that the officers arrested in Kogi State were found escorting a VIP, contrary to police directives. The statement emphasized that escorting VIPs during elections goes against established protocols, and officers involved in such actions will be sanctioned. This comes in the wake of a directive from the Nigerian government to withdraw all police escorts from VIPs, as announced by the Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.
