The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted two separate bandit attacks and rescued five kidnapped victims, while neutralizing two of the attackers.
According to a press statement by the command’s Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the police received a distress call on Sunday regarding an attack on Layin Minister Village in Malumfashi Local Government Area (LGA). The attack resulted in the kidnapping of five individuals.
Sadiq reported: “On August 25, 2024, at approximately 10:00 AM, the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters was alerted to a bandit attack in Layin Minister Village, Malumfashi LGA. The attackers had kidnapped five people.”
Upon receiving the report, police operatives were swiftly mobilized and dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the bandits opened fire on the police, who responded with superior firepower. All five kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unharmed, while the attackers, who sustained various injuries, fled.
Later that day, at around 5:40 PM, another distress call was received about armed bandits attacking Marabar Kankara village, Malumfashi LGA. The bandits, numbering about twelve and riding motorcycles, used the cover of rain to launch their assault.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Malumfashi quickly mobilized security forces to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight, successfully preventing the attack. During the operation, the bodies of two neutralized bandits were recovered. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects, and an investigation is underway.
Police Commissioner CP Aliyu Musa commended the bravery of the operatives and reiterated the command’s commitment to enhancing security in the state.
