Amidst the joyous celebration of Eid-el-Kabir in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) voiced their accusations against the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. Both parties claimed that the implementation of certain policies by the administration had made it challenging for numerous individuals to partake in the festivities. On the day President Tinubu marked his one-month tenure, the criticisms from the PDP and LP prompted a swift response from the Presidency. The Presidency countered the accusations by accusing the PDP of harboring envy towards Tinubu’s accomplishments within three weeks, highlighting that the president achieved more in that short time span than the PDP did during their 16-year tenure.
PDP Cautions APC and FG on Anti-People Policies
As Nigerians celebrated Eid-el-Kabir, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cautioned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Federal Government against implementing policies that harm the people. The PDP urged Nigerians to use the auspicious occasion to pray for justice and the will of Allah to prevail in the nation’s affairs.
The PDP acknowledged the resilience of Nigerians in the face of severe economic hardships under the APC-led government. Despite the prevailing economic, social, and security challenges, the party called on Nigerians to maintain patience, hope, and trust in God.
Expressing deep concern over the worsening economic crisis, the PDP criticized the APC-led government for imposing policies that increase the cost of essential goods and services without providing viable relief plans. The party highlighted the collapsing purchasing power of citizens and the distress faced by millions of families across the country.
The PDP’s statement, released by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, emphasized the importance of selflessness, trust, and submission to Allah’s will in all aspects of life, urging Nigerians not to lose sight of these values in the face of hardship.”It is disheartening that during a time like this, millions of Nigerians are experiencing frustration as they lack the means to afford basic necessities and celebrate with their loved ones.”
“It is deeply saddening that due to hardship and insensitive policies imposed by the APC government, many Nigerians are unable to express their affection by traveling to visit or share moments with their family and friends.
However, the PDP encourages Nigerians not to lose hope but to utilize the Eid-el-Kabir celebration as an opportunity to strengthen unity, love, support, and care for one another during this critical time.”
Presidency dismisses PDP’s claims, highlights Tinubu’s achievements
Disregarding the PDP’s allegations of implementing anti-people policies, the Presidency responded by stating that the PDP was envious of the APC government’s accomplishments within three weeks. Mr. Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, expressed expectations that the PDP would continue making worse statements, given their lack of mental capacity and managerial acumen during their 16-year rule.
According to Alake, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration achieved what the PDP couldn’t accomplish in 16 years in just three weeks. He emphasized the PDP’s envy, attributing it to their incompetence and inability to achieve significant goals.
LP criticizes Tinubu’s administration for lavish lifestyle
The LP criticized President Tinubu’s administration for displaying early signs of continuing the extravagant lifestyle of its predecessor, highlighting the long convoy of vehicles and bloated bureaucracy. The party’s Acting National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, expressed irony in an administration whose legitimacy is still being challenged in court, urging Nigerians to make sacrifices while living in opulence.
Ifoh found it unfortunate that the APC government, within one month of assuming temporary power, had inflicted pain and suffering on Nigerians. He criticized the administration’s decision to increase the prices of petroleum products, electricity tariffs, and vehicle registration without reducing the cost of governance. Ifoh highlighted President Tinubu’s return from a foreign trip, welcomed by a convoy of over 100 vehicles fueled by taxpayers’ money, predicting that more taxes would be imposed to maintain the extravagant lifestyles of those in power.
APC highlights Tinubu’s efforts to reposition Nigeria
In the midst of Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the APC congratulated Nigerians, especially Muslim faithful, and urged them to support President Tinubu’s administration. The party emphasized that Tinubu is taking bold and courageous steps to reposition the country for rapid economic growth and greatness.
APC spokesperson, Felix Morka, stated that the festival of Eid-el-Kabir signifies personal sacrifice and highlights Allah’s capacity to provide for humanity. Morka emphasized that this year’s celebration coincides with a period when President Tinubu is implementing decisive measures to fulfill his administration’s Renewed Hope agenda. The APC urged Nigerians to embody the virtues of sacrifice and patience in their collective pursuit of a better Nigeria.
