President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic deaths of 40 members of the Tijjaniyya Movement in Nigeria who were killed in a road accident on Sunday. The victims were en route from Kwandari in Plateau State to Saminaka, Kaduna State, to celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu conveyed his heartfelt condolences. The statement, titled “President Tinubu Mourns 40 Participants Killed in Auto Crash,” reflects the President’s grief over the loss.
The accident occurred when the bus carrying the worshippers collided with an oncoming truck near Lere. Reports indicate that several individuals sustained injuries and are currently undergoing medical treatment.
Tinubu’s statement extended sympathies to the families of the deceased and the injured, as well as to the governments of Kaduna and Plateau states. He offered prayers for the souls of those who perished in the crash.
In response to this tragedy, President Tinubu has directed the Federal Road Safety Commission to improve highway monitoring and implement measures to prevent future road accidents. This directive aims to enhance road safety and reduce the incidence of similar accidents across the nation.
