President Bola Tinubu has lauded Rena Wakama, the coach of Nigeria’s D’Tigress, for being named the best coach of women’s basketball at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Tinubu described the accolade as a testament to Wakama’s exceptional leadership and commitment to the sport.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the President also praised the D’Tigress for their historic achievement as the first African basketball team to advance to the quarter-finals at the Olympic Games. Despite not securing medals, he encouraged the team to remain undeterred by their results.
President Tinubu extended his appreciation to the entire Nigerian contingent at the Olympics, commending their efforts and sportsmanship. He emphasized that while winning medals is a key goal in sports, the values of good sportsmanship, discipline, and dedication are paramount.
The President’s message acknowledged the significant contribution of Coach Wakama, 32, and the entire team, encouraging them to stay resilient and focused on future successes.
