Paris Saint Germain coach Christophe Galtier, along with his son John Valovic-Galtier, was held for questioning as part of an investigation into alleged discrimination, according to the Nice prosecutor. The probe was initiated in April after claims emerged that Galtier had made racist and Islamophobic remarks about players during his tenure as coach of Nice in the 2021/22 season.
The prosecutor stated that more information regarding the arrests of Galtier and his son, who is a player’s agent, would be provided in a statement later on Friday. Meanwhile, PSG is reportedly planning to terminate Galtier’s contract following a disappointing season with 10 defeats and an early exit from the Champions League, the team’s primary objective.
The allegations initially surfaced in the French media in April, alleging that former Nice sporting director Julien Fournier had written an email claiming Galtier had made discriminatory comments about several members of the Nice squad. Galtier strongly denied the allegations and expressed shock at the claims. He even filed a defamation suit against the journalist who published the allegations and Fournier.
Fournier confirmed to AFP on May 22 that he had been questioned as part of the ongoing judicial investigation, but did not provide further details.
