Rangers coach, Michael Beale, is highly optimistic about the goal-scoring prowess of Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers for the upcoming season, according to Soccernet reports.
In the past two seasons, Rangers has been unable to secure the Scottish Premiership title, living in the shadow of their close rivals, Celtic, since the departure of Steven Gerrard as manager. However, the club is determined to change their fortunes in the upcoming season and has made strategic signings, including the acquisition of Nigerian striker, Dessers.
During the pre-season, Rangers played two friendly matches, securing a win against Hamburger in their most recent outing while suffering a loss against Newcastle United in their first game. Dessers, making his debut for Rangers, played in the second half against Hamburger but was unable to find the back of the net.
Notwithstanding, Coach Beale remains highly optimistic about Dessers’ performance in the upcoming season, expressing his belief that the 28-year-old striker will contribute significantly to the team’s goal tally. Beale stated, “I think Dessers will be one of three or four players who can get us double figures in goals this season. If we’re a good team, we’ll share the goals. But Cyriel has come in, and he’s really fresh, energetic. We’re trying to get as many forwards as we can on the pitch.”
As Rangers gear up for their remaining friendlies against Hoffenheim and Olympiakos, they are eager to make a strong start in the Premiership campaign, scheduled to begin on August 5th against Kilmarnock. With the addition of Dessers and other quality players, the club is determined to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title and put an end to Celtic’s dominance.
