Rema, the Nigerian music sensation, has made history with his debut album, ‘Raves & Roses,’ by receiving an RIAA gold certification. Released in 2022, the album achieved significant commercial success, propelled by the global popularity of hit singles like ‘Calm Down’ and ‘Soundgasm.’
This milestone is particularly noteworthy as ‘Raves & Roses’ becomes the first debut album by an African artist to attain an RIAA gold certification. The album now stands alongside Wizkid’s Grammy-nominated ‘Made In Lagos’ as one of the few Afrobeats albums with RIAA certification.
The success of ‘Raves & Roses’ extended beyond borders, with the album reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. Impressively, it maintained a presence on the chart for over 52 weeks. The single ‘Calm Down,’ featuring Selena Gomez, played a pivotal role in the album’s triumph, spending over 52 weeks at the top of Billboard’s Afrobeats Chart.
Notably, the track achieved double platinum status in the United States, solidifying its position as the most successful Afrobeats crossover single to date. Rema’s groundbreaking accomplishment reflects the increasing global recognition and impact of African artists in the music industry.
