The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has criticized Daniel Bwala, the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the party in the last general elections, for making false claims about Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State.
The party refuted Bwala’s insinuation that Nyesom Wike was working in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) motor park when Atiku and others founded the PDP. According to the PDP, Wike had a career in law before entering politics, and Bwala’s comments demonstrate a lack of understanding about the invaluable contributions of Wike to the party.
Chief Kingsley Chuku, the Legal Adviser of PDP in Rivers State and former Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (Port Harcourt Branch), criticized Bwala for his remarks, stating that a legal practitioner should exercise decorum and verify information before making public statements. Chuku suggested that Bwala’s comments reflected a lack of professionalism and an inclination toward spreading falsehoods.
He clarified that Nyesom Wike had practiced law in Port Harcourt and worked at a reputable law firm in the city before entering politics. Chuku concluded that Bwala’s statements were baseless and ignorant of Wike’s background and contributions to the PDP.
The dispute arose from Bwala’s remarks about the founding fathers of the PDP, where he incorrectly portrayed Wike’s background and career path.
