Senator Anayo Rochas Okorocha representing Imo West, is yet to appear before a Federal High Court in Abuja to take his plea in the N2.9b money laundering criminal charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
The arraignment to be conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is billed for today, Monday, before Justice Inyang Ekwo.
However, at the time of this report, traces of the former Imo State Governor could not be noticed by DAILY POST correspondent.
Okorocha’s initial arraignment was slated for February 22, but his absence in court prompted Justice Ekwo to fix a new date of today, March 28.
The Senator is being put on trial by the Federal Government on 17-count charges, bordering on criminal diversion of public funds and properties.
At the time of this report, the court room is already heavily jam-packed with politicians believed to be aides and sympathizers of the former governor.
EFCC’s lawyer, Cosmos Ugwu is already in court but declined comments on how the proceedings would be in the event of absence of the defendant for the second time.
The charges against Okorocha, dated January 24, 2022, was signed by one A.O Ikota on behalf of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
