A self-declared prophet in Ogun State, known as Pastor Sunday, has been apprehended after allegedly kidnapping a young lady just days before her scheduled wedding. The State Police Command confirmed this incident in a statement released to the press on Tuesday. Pastor Sunday, affiliated with a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in the Agbado area of Ogun State, reportedly abducted a 21-year-old woman named Aliu Blessing approximately seven months ago.
The victim initially sought spiritual assistance from the cleric for her ailing sister. However, things took a dark turn when the pastor purportedly prophesied that she would meet a tragic fate on her wedding day unless she engaged in sexual relations with him. He further claimed that anyone else who attempted to have a relationship with her would face a similar fate.
In light of these deceptive and manipulative prophecies, the pastor allegedly abducted the young lady on February 2, 2023, spiraling her family into anguish and confusion.
After enduring over seven months of captivity, Blessing returned home on November 5, 2023, and recounted the harrowing experience. She revealed that Pastor Sunday had taken her to his family residence in Ilaro and, subsequently, to a hotel where he reportedly engaged in multiple non-consensual sexual acts with her.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the suspect’s arrest and his confession during questioning. He is currently in police custody and will face charges in court once the investigation is complete.
Furthermore, due to the victim’s psychological distress, she has been taken to the hospital for a comprehensive medical examination. This deeply disturbing incident underscores the importance of vigilance and the need for ethical and accountable conduct within religious organizations.
