The Nigerian Senate has commenced the screening process for the recently nominated Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The newly appointed RECs and their respective states are as follows:
1. Etekamba Umoren (Akwa Ibom)
2. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne (Edo)
3. Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti)
4. Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji (Gombe)
5. Shehu Wahab (Kwara)
6. Prof. Mohammed Yelwa (Niger)
7. Anugbum Onuoha (Rivers)
8. Isma’ila Kaura Moyi (Zamfara)
9. Bunmi Omoseyindemi (Lagos)
10. Aminu Kasimu Idris (Nasarawa)
President Bola Tinubu had submitted a letter to the Senate requesting the screening and confirmation of these 10 new Resident Electoral Commissioners, each of whom is to serve a five-year term.
The RECs were appointed last week to serve in the Independent National Electoral Commission, a vital institution responsible for organizing and overseeing electoral processes in Nigeria. The Senate’s screening process is an important step in ensuring that qualified individuals are appointed to these roles.
