Kennedy Boboye, the coach of Sunshine Stars, is eyeing a third Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title as he gears up for the 2024-2025 season. After successfully navigating the team through a tough relegation struggle last season, Boboye is determined to lead Sunshine Stars to league victory next year.
Boboye, who previously secured NPFL titles with Plateau United in 2017 and Akwa United in 2021, guided Sunshine Stars to a 10th-place finish last season, accumulating 52 points after a challenging start.
Currently, Sunshine Stars are participating in the Governor Douye Diri Pre-Season tournament in Bayelsa. They kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 victory over the host team, Bayelsa United, with new signing Ismail Ayodele scoring the decisive goal in the 35th minute.
Boboye sees the tournament as a crucial phase for evaluating his squad and fine-tuning their strategies. He underscored the team’s ambition, saying, “Our target is to win the league; nothing short of that. We are not there yet… we will be better than what people are seeing here.”
Under Boboye’s guidance, Sunshine Stars previously achieved notable success, including a sixth-place finish in the 2015 NPFL season— their best performance since their participation in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup between 2011 and 2012.
