The Supreme Court of Nigeria has categorically denied rumors circulating about the withdrawal of five justices from the panel set to hear the appeals of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 presidential election. Dr. Festus Akande, Director of Press and Information at the Supreme Court, has confirmed that the panel remains intact and is fully prepared to hear the appeals scheduled for today.
Akande stated, “This is not true. The panel is ready. You will see all the Justices tomorrow (today). There is no crisis anywhere, as claimed by those online platforms.”
Similar unfounded claims had surfaced previously during the hearing at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), where it was falsely asserted that Justice Boloukuoromo Moses Ugo had resigned. However, investigations revealed that the justice had not resigned, and the claims were baseless.
In anticipation of today’s hearing, stringent security measures have been implemented, and access to the courtroom will be restricted to maintain order and ensure the proceedings proceed smoothly.
