In Jigawa State, a tragic incident occurred involving Abdulrashibu Ya’u, a 40-year-old tea vendor, who fatally attacked 20-year-old Hassan Garba. The violent confrontation was sparked by Ya’u’s accusation that Garba had stolen bread, milk, noodles, and petrol from him.
According to reports, the situation escalated when Ya’u, frustrated by what he believed to be repeated thefts by Garba, took matters into his own hands. Despite having informed Garba’s parents about the alleged thefts, no resolution was reached. Ya’u, in a fit of rage, restrained Garba with a rope and assaulted him with a stick, leading to Garba’s death.
The authorities were alerted to the scene, and a police team was dispatched. Garba was rushed to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer in Jigawa, confirmed that Ya’u admitted to the crime during interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse.
Neighbors reported hearing Garba’s cries for help but were unable to intervene until the police arrived. The PPRO stated, “Following a thorough investigation, Ya’u will be arraigned in court to face the full weight of the law.”
