Kebbi State Police Command is in mourning following the tragic killing of SP Haliru Liman, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Wasagu, by a military officer from OPHD Sector 6 in Dan Marke, Bukuyyum, Zamfara State.
On August 24, 2024, SP Liman was en route to Birnin Kebbi to attend a conference when he was stopped by the military officer. After identifying himself, the officer suddenly pointed his gun at him and shot him in the forehead, resulting in SP Liman’s immediate death.
The Kebbi Police Command has condemned this unprovoked and brutal act, calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Command described the killing as unacceptable and unwarranted.
SP Nafiu Abubakar, the Command’s spokesperson, expressed dismay at the deteriorating inter-agency collaboration and harmonious working relationship, stating, “The Police did not expect such an act from the military, who are professionally trained to work in coordination with other security agencies. This is a grievous breach of trust.”
The statement did not mention whether the military officer responsible has been apprehended. However, ASP Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Zamfara Police Command, assured that justice would be pursued for the deceased’s family and vowed to thoroughly investigate the matter.
The tragic event has sparked significant tension and highlighted concerns about inter-agency relations and accountability within the security forces.
