Aliyu Gebi, the Special Adviser to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, stated that Nigeria is experiencing its first coordinated response to insecurity under President Bola Tinubu. In an interview with Arise TV, he highlighted that terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), have been significantly weakened due to improved coordination among security forces.
Gebi reported that Boko Haram has been reduced by 82%, while ISWAP has been diminished by 75%. He emphasized that this level of coordination is unprecedented in Nigeria’s history, marking a shift toward mission-specific targets against known threats.
“This is the first time we’re having a very coordinated response to insecurity, where we have mission specifics,” Gebi remarked. He credited the effectiveness of the security strategy to the leadership of the National Security Advisor and the military’s efforts.
He also commended the military for its role in assisting flood victims in Borno State, drawing parallels to the response capabilities of the armed forces in the United States. Gebi noted that the military has acquired the right equipment necessary for effective operations.
Despite the progress, Gebi stressed the importance of maintaining the gains achieved against insecurity, urging a continued focus on consolidating successes to prevent a regression to previous levels of violence. He acknowledged the military’s renewed vigor and the harmonization of operations as key factors in the ongoing efforts against insecurity in the Northwest and beyond.
