The Jigawa State Police Command is mourning the loss of three top-ranking officers who recently died due to various health issues. The tragic news was confirmed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, in Dutse, the state capital.
– **SP Salisu Salisu-Mudi**, a member of the Patrol and Guard team from Babura Division, passed away on June 22 at the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina.
– **ASP Asabe Muhammad**, the second-in-command for the Gender Desk Office of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), died last Wednesday.
– **CSP Muhammad Salihu-Koko**, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Yankwaahi Division, passed away on Friday.
Shiisu expressed heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the fallen officers and prayed for their souls to rest in peace.
In another tragic incident, a graduate of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Ogun State, who worked as a gambling agent, was reportedly shot dead by a police officer in the Imala region of Abeokuta, the state’s capital.
The deceased, known as **Anuoluwapo**, ran a Bet9ja outlet near a popular hotel and was closing up for the day when the fatal shot was fired. According to Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, everyone involved in the incident has been summoned for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
There are conflicting accounts of the incident:
– Some witnesses claim the officers involved were under the influence of alcohol when one of them fired the shot that killed Anuoluwapo.
– Another account suggests the officers were conducting a search or pursuing a suspect when Anuoluwapo, also known as Pepe, was accidentally shot.
After the shooting, witnesses reported that the officers fled into the hotel and called for reinforcements, who arrived and intermittently fired their weapons to facilitate the officers’ escape.
These tragic events have left communities in both Jigawa and Ogun states in mourning, as they grapple with the sudden loss of lives and the circumstances surrounding these deaths.
