In a joint effort between vigilant residents and law enforcement, the police successfully apprehended a notorious traffic robber, identified as Ali ‘m’, disguising himself as a beggar along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The arrest was made in the Ikate area of Lekki.
Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the suspect carried out his criminal activities by preying on unsuspecting motorists, robbing them of cash and valuables under the threat of violence. The arrest was executed through the collaborative efforts of the local community and the police.
The Lekki Concession Company Limited (LCC) also played a crucial role in facilitating the capture of the suspect. Veronica Jacob, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Communications & Marketing at LCC, revealed that the company’s Chief Security Officer, Solomon Tolafari, acted upon an intelligence report received by the company.
According to Jacob, “Based on the recent report of a man that had been terrorizing road users along the Lekki corridor, I mobilized our Man ‘O War team to go after him, and he was apprehended around the Ikate area on Tuesday carrying out his nefarious activities, robbing unsuspecting motorists while pretending to be begging for alms.”
The suspect, Ali, was subsequently handed over to officers at the Maroko Police Station for further investigation and potential prosecution. The Police Public Relations Officer emphasized that the suspect would be arraigned based on the outcome of the ongoing investigation. The incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and collaboration with law enforcement in combating criminal activities.
