Victor Osimhen’s anticipated transfer to Chelsea is facing serious obstacles due to the Nigerian striker’s substantial wage demands. Reports indicate that Osimhen is seeking a weekly salary of £500,000, a figure that is causing Chelsea to reassess their interest in acquiring him. Currently with Napoli, Osimhen has indicated a strong desire to leave the Italian club this summer, but his lofty salary expectations are complicating the negotiation process.
In addition to Chelsea, other prominent clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are closely observing the situation, hoping to capitalize on any potential opportunity. However, Chelsea’s ongoing concerns about their wage bill—exemplified by their recent decision to part ways with Raheem Sterling—could prevent them from meeting Osimhen’s financial demands.
Osimhen’s stellar performance during the 2022/23 season, which included playing a pivotal role in Napoli’s Serie A title victory and finishing as the league’s top scorer with 26 goals, led to a significant pay raise in December 2023. Despite this, he remains steadfast in his wage request as he seeks a move to Stamford Bridge.
Negotiations between Chelsea and Napoli have been protracted, primarily due to Chelsea’s reluctance to meet the striker’s €130 million release clause and Osimhen’s high salary expectations. With the transfer window rapidly closing, the future of the deal remains uncertain, leaving the possibility of a completed transfer in question.
