One of President Muhammadu Buhari’s media aides, Tolu Ogunlesi, has responded to backlash at the present administration over the continuous collapse of the National grid in recent times.
Despite consistent power outages in Abuja and other states recently, the national grid on Monday collapsed again.
A total system collapse means total blackout nationwide in most parts of the country.
Nigerians took to social media to lament the suffering faced due to loss of power supply, especially at a time where fuel sells at N210 by litre and diesel at N700/800 per litre.
Reacting, Ogunlesi on his Twitter page said although things are not well in Nigeria, the rate at which the national grid collapses has reduced significantly from 2020.
He noted that such progress should be highlighted, stressing that the government still has a long way to go but is headed in the right direction.
His tweet read, “From 42 grid collapses in 2010 to 4 in 2020 sounds to me like the kind of progress we should be highlighting.
“Nobody is saying all is well, far from it. We still have a long way to go, but we are headed in the right direction. What we need to do is DO MORE!
Meanwhile, the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu had convened an emergency meeting with the stakeholders in the power sector to address the current low power generation which has caused epileptic supply across the nation.
Aliyu assured that the government will not relent in its efforts to ensure that improvements in the power sector are sustained so that the electricity supply improves across Nigeria.
