Nyesom Wike, a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a minister-designate, paid a congratulatory visit to Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the newly elected national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The visit took place at Ganduje’s residence in Abuja. Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, expressed his congratulations to Ganduje on assuming the role of APC chairman.
Ganduje officially became the APC chairman on August 3, 2023, during the 12th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party held in Abuja. His emergence followed the contentious resignation of the former party chair, Abdullahi Adamu, along with several other NEC members of the party.
Ganduje, who served as the Governor of Kano for two terms from May 2015 to May 2023, is known for his strong alliance with President Bola Tinubu.
Interestingly, Nyesom Wike is considered loyal to Tinubu, despite their political party differences. Wike had publicly acknowledged his efforts against the PDP’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, during the February 25, 2023 elections. He openly stated that he worked to support the success of Tinubu, then the APC presidential candidate, in Rivers State.
Wike’s alignment with members of the ruling parties, including both current and former governors, has been noteworthy. As a key member of the G5 – a group of five PDP governors before the 2023 elections who supported the return of power to Southern Nigeria over Atiku’s candidacy – Wike has been strategically involved in political dynamics transcending party lines. He is also notably the only member of the opposition whose confirmation as one of Bola Tinubu’s 45 ministerial nominees by the Senate has been confirmed.
